INTERVIEW: AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH MIDDLESPOON!

MIDDLESPOON is the brainchild and passion project of lead vocalist Alexander Beatz, who is gearing up to release their newest single and video titled, “Crush On U”, WHICH IS OUT NOW! Check it out here.

The Vinyl: For those who may not be quite familiar with you, mind introducing yourself and give us a fun fact to break the ice?

MIDDLESPOON: Alexander Beatz here my band is MIDDLESPOON and we make what I like to call “Pop With Purpose.” I guess a fun fact about me is before I started MIDDLESPOON around 2016 I was working for about a decade on a family farm where we focused on growing organic craft cannabis. We specialized in flower, concentrates and topicals. MIDDLESPOON was my way back to my  true love which is music, fashion and dancing.

TV: What is the story behind “MIDDLESPOON” how did that name come about? Im sure you’re asked this a lot.

M: MIDDLESPOON is all about living your best life whoever you are or wherever you come from. We believe in all types of relationships. MIDDLESPOON is flirtatious and playful in nature. The name implies a third person or more than 2. And both me and my former band mate have always had different views on what is “normal” for a relationship so when we were spitballing and that came out it seemed like a perfect fit.

TV: How did your journey as artists begin? What/who are some influences that you may have?

M: My love of music has always been there. Before I was born my mom was humming me Claire de lune to Chaka Chan. I’d have to say my mother has been my biggest influence. She put me on to most of the greats like Bach, Jackson, Badu, Prince, Earth Wind and Fire, Jamiroquai, 2pac and many more.

TV: What does the typical writing/recording process look like for you? What gets the mind flowing with song/musical ideas? Do you take from personal experiences or just a wing it type scenario?

M: I’m all over the place. I definitely pull from personal experience it’s hard not to. Being authentic is very important to me. It can be easy and take a few hours or it can be a grueling 3-6 months before a song is finally done.

TV: When in the process of creating music, which usually comes first? The beats or the lyrics?

M: I’ve approached it both ways however Brightside was entirely beat first.

TV: You’re set to release a new single called “Crush On U” tell us about this single, what’s the tea on this song?

M: We’re pulling on the listeners heart strings. We want them to fall into their own nostalgic memories of love and summer by submitting bits of our own mixed in with just the right amount of pop culture references. I think about a different crush every time I listen. The song is not really about one crush it’s more of a landscape for the listener to reimmerse themselves back in to those fond memories while re-stoking that sense of newness and head over heels love.

TV: If you can collaborate on a song with any artist right now who would it be?

M: It would be between Pharrell Williams and Anderson .Paak.

TV: What are some 2022 plans you all have to promote your music? Any tours/shows/festivals?

M: We’re completely upgrading the band and live show. We’re adding 2 new members and hope to be ready to play by fall/winter.

TV: Since we are halfway through 2022, what are some goals you are setting for 2023?

M: Outside of landing a badass tour our goal is to drop the full record and have a 3-6 song EP ready by mid 2023 and to have set up an amazing live show experience equipped with dancers that we plan on filming.

TV: As we conclude this interview, anything you would like to say to your fans?

M: I just hope the listeners benefit from all the love and hard work we put into this. My hope is that it impacts the fans by uplifting them and reminding them to be kind, be loving and live in joy as much as they can in this short life.
